Personal Coaching Services
The first thing that I want to say about my coaching is that it is personal and transparent. I'm going to tell it to you like it is. I am someone that prefers and appreciates open and regular communication and honesty. There are no "cookie cutter" training plans that I will send out, and I won't go weeks without speaking with you. Everyone is unique, has different goals and aspirations, strengths, weaknesses, and availability so I will customize a plan that works for you.
The initial action that you will need to take is to check out our training page ...Make contact w/ me and I will send you a brief questionnaire to fill out. From there we will set up a time to meet in person (if you are local to Portland, OR) or set up a phone (or Skype) conversation where we can get to know each other better. I use this initial meeting/conversation to establish a "Training Age" based on your background and experiences. Someone that has been involved in athletics most of their life will have a higher training age than someone who has started running at age 40. Both are fine but this will help me calibrate the training regimen.
I will then design a training plan for you using principles of progression and periodization to build your strength, speed, and endurance. Usually, unless specified otherwise, I will send out two weeks of training at a time but we will check-in together on a weekly basis via an interactive spreadsheet. This will allow you to update your runs/workouts regularly. This type of communication has worked very well with the athletes I coach.
If you are local to Portland, OR I will work with you one-on-one and within groups to fine tune form, efficiency, and to facilitate strength and speed workouts. We will have fun and enjoy the trails together too...that's what it's all about right?!!! One of the many aspects I love about coaching is that I have forged friendships along the way.
I have coached people from all over the world so close proximity is not a prerequisite for success. Part of having me as your coach will involve discussing many running-related topics such as gear, shoes, race selection, nutrition (before, during, and after running), and logistics of a long race. I have also been known to accompany people I coach at some of their races if I can make it happen.
